The event is being viewed as a trial for the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Singapore next year
Kenya Aquatics is kicking on with plans to hold its first-ever regional Masters Swimming Championships scheduled for March next year at the Kasarani Aquatic Arena.
Having made masters swimming a priority this year, the national body, as per Technical Director Omar Omari, is on the road to going a step higher by gracing swimmers from Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda in its annual national championship.
The move is part of a broader regional collaboration, as neighboring countries prepare for the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Singapore next year.
To that, Omar said: “If we jointly hold one trial for the four countries, it will bring an element of competition and significantly reduce the resources required for each country to host its own trial.”
All swimmers who meet the qualifying times will have the opportunity to represent the nation on the global stage, joining over 6,000 masters athletes from more than 100 countries competing across disciplines such as: swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, and open water swimming.
A Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the championship is set to be instituted by January 2025 and will be tasked with ensuring that all logistics are in place for a seamless and memorable championship.
“We are seeking sponsors to come on board and market their brands, as the event will offer a fertile ground for marketing and publicity,” Omar added. “The national championship will not only showcase swimming talent but also serve as an ideal opportunity for businesses to connect with their target audiences.”
Registration for the Kenyan championship opens on 10 January and closes on 10 March.
For the Singapore event, registration runs from 28 January to 26 June via the World Aquatics General Management System (GMS) platform.
Kenya Aquatics this year also confirmed its interest in hosting an exclusive Africa Aquatics Masters Swimming Championship in the coming year.
