The driver concluded the 2021 season on 187 points, 14 behind winner Thethy

As the 2021 KCB Autocross Championship wrapped up, Two Wheel Drive (2WD) non-turbo car driver Sam Karangatha finished second to champion Rejveer Thethy and as preparations for next year's season begin, the engineer by profession is looking to go one better and win the event.

In a cut-throat rivalry with Thethy, Karangatha won three events, including the season-opening leg, finished second in six including the final event of the season held against the Jamhuri Park racetrack and was third once, at the Kasarani leg of the event.

"It was a great season starting on a high with a class win at the Waterfront round. The competition in the class was amazing and we had to keep pushing through out the season to keep up the pace, managing other wins at Mombasa and Nanyuki and fastest heats at Kasarani and Jamhuri. All in all a wonderful year,"

"For next season, we are trying to see if we can get a deal on a new car. Otherwise we will go for the Autocross Championship again. I will also be taking part in the tarmac championship and clubman rallies that KMSF are introducing," offered Karangatha.

The driver headed to the final round well aware that his biggest competitor throughout the season, Thethy had the championship sealed as he just needed to be on the podium to amass an unassailable points tally. However, he still was ready to fight for his fourth victory.

"The final leg was one of the wettest events of the season. We did the best we could on this occasion managing second place and fifth overall, consolidating a strong second place finish in the 2WD Non Turbo Championship,"

"I am very grateful for the support we had through out. I nearly gave up the championship at round three after going through a rough patch but I am glad I stayed on and pulled through," he said.

Even as he hopes for a new car that will give him an Edge over the other competitors in the class, Karangatha remains grateful to Azar Anwar Motorsport who help him with car setup and event support in 2021, when he was on the verge of quiting. Extreme Performance garage, Studio AZ, Pure Delight Water, Total, Boresha Africa, Shift Auto Ambulance were his other partners.
