Seven months after Ohaga's exit, CJ Koome in her position as the chairperson of the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC), appointed advocate Benard Murunga Wafula as the new Chairperson of SDT.
Via a gazette notice on Tuesday, 24 June, Koome announced that Murunga will take over as the Tribunal's chairperson for a period of five years.
Murunga will serve alongside Allan Mola as the only member of the Tribunal, as the JSC is set to conclude recruitment of others later.
After Ohaga's exit in November 2024, terms of six other members of the tribunal including; Jane Njeri, Elynah Shiveka, Peter Ochieng, Edmond Gichuru also came to an end in May.

Murunga is Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 25 years of post-admission practice having been admitted to the bar in 2000.
Just like Ohaga, Murunga is an arbitrator and is registered with The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) hinting at philosophy of conflict resolution outside the traditional court system.
