Organisers revealed plans to hold the tournament every year, make it big and better

Professor Irungu was serenaded to a lap of honour around Shieywe in Kakamega following his triumph in the inaugural Mozzart Bet Mayo Bullfighting tournament.

Three thrilling fights were staged on Saturday as curtains fell on the four-day-long tournament, that sought to celebrate the Luhya culture.

The near-wild celebrations Irungu was accorded, however, stole the show on the final day as the bull was taken on a ride through Kakamega town, cementing its legendary status in the region.

The handlers told Mozzart Sport that Irungu had not lost in the last 14 matches and is regarded as one of the elite bulls in the county.

The heavy showers which started after the final match did little to stop the bullfighting enthusiasts from following the bull closely.

Fighting less than a kilometre from home, Irungu, who also had a grand entry into the arena, needed just a single minute to defeat BBI from Kabras.

Efforts by the team escorting BBI, to request for a rematch, perhaps after their bull was quickly beaten, were futile as Irungu was quickly whisked away for celebrations.

In other fights of the day, Hazard, from Imachina, had a disappointing performance as he lost to Nyayo from Muraka in under two minutes.

Hazard, one of the biggest bulls from the area, was expected to have an easy time in beating Nyayo but lost much to the disappointment of his team.

Separating the two fights was the most intense clash of the day, which pit Junior from Shitao against Promise from Shinyalu.

The two bulls locked horns for more than 12 minutes with Promise delivering to the thousands of supporters by clinching victory on the muddy ring.

Promise, was among the first bulls to be driven to the ring as chanting fans tailgated the lorry that drove it to the bullring.

With their customised shirts and flags hoisted high, fans praised the bull as one of the beasts in the county and in the end, it delivered.
