The tour has taken a short break with the next event being the Uganda Open which has now been moved from Uganda Golf Club to the Entebbe Golf Club from December 2.
After four legs of the Kenya Open Golf Limited-organised Safari Tour, Dismas Indiza leads the log as golfers battle for points that qualify them to the Magical Kenya Open which is part of the prestigious European Tour.
The Mumias golfer has accumulation 218.5 points, despite having missed top prize on all four legs of the 2021/22 edition.
He, however, came to the Tour with a 118.7 points advantage, the total combined points from the last two seasons of the Tour that form 30 percent ( ten from season two and 20 from last season) of the final points tally.
In the season-opening Sigona leg won by junior golfer Taimur Malik in a playoff, Indiza finished tied eighth after leveling the course in the first two rounds and shooting one over par 73 in the third and fourth legs fir a total rounds score of two over par 290.
"I had not been in my fine form as I had not been training prior to the Tour. I have been using the initial legs as part of my practice but I can feel my form getting back as I finished tied second in the fourth leg held in Nyali. Heading to Uganda, I am looking to get my first victory in the tour," said Indiza who will have picked a seventh title in Uganda in the event of a win.
In the second leg held at Vetlab, the hard-hitting golfer was again out of form, shooting 12 over par 300 in rounds of 77, 74, 76 and 73 to finish 11th on the log for 28 points.
The Tour headed down to Naivasha at the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort where Indiza made cut but a terrible score of 80 in round three saw him finish a distant seventh, with an eight over par, in a leg that he would have easily topped had he carded an underscore in that round.
In the fourth round played at Nyali Uganda’s Deo Akope wrote history by becoming the first Ugandan to win a Safari Tour leg in Kenya.
He beat senior Indiza and Thika Sports Club’s Simon Ngige by two shots. Indiza, had fired
level par 71 in the final round for a total of level par 284 ( 72,70,71,71) to tie with Ngige in second place.
"I played a better game in Nyali, although not to the level I had expected. I am using this break to try and prepare for a better show in Uganda. I am still facing problems with having to travel to Kakamega for a proper course as the Mumias one has not been used or tended to since Covid-19 hit," Indiza offered.
