The hosts will fight for top spot when they come up against unbeaten Zimbabwe on Thursday
Shem Ngoche took three wickets and a maiden over as Kenya registered a nine-wicket victory over Seychelles in their fourth game of 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional Qualifier B tournament on Wednesday 23 October.
The skipper, who only allowed nine runs in his four overs, was responsible for a lower-order batsmen decimation that restricted the Islanders to a paltry 74 runs in 20 overs.
Having seen Sachin Gill account for two quick dismissals of Islam Mazharul and Thiwanka Rajapaksha for a combined one run in the first two overs, Ngoche turned on the afterburners to take out his three men - including a duck for Gnanapragasam Nagarajann- to help set an achievable score in the second innings.
Rashen De Silva, who was bowled out by Tuesday's hero Gerrard Mwendwa, was Seychelles' best batter with 33 runs off 34 balls
The Kenyan batters made light work of the run-chase, needing just the effort of three men to close out the convincing win with 57 balls left.
Neil Mugabe hit 33 not-out, with Rushab and Rakep Patel scoring 20 and 23 runs respectively.
With the win, which was Kenya's fourth of the tournament, the hosts are assured of a place in the regional finals, but will first vie for top-spot when they play leaders Zimbabwe on Thursday.
Zimbabwe, on a rather historic afternoon for them, brushed aside bottom-placed Gambia by 290 runs after team captain Sikandar Raza had scored 133 runs (not out) in the first innings.
