Over 40 top tier teams have confirmed their participation in this year's Kenya Aquatics National Championships set to make history as the first nationwide event to take place in the Mt. Kenya region.
The championship is set for 18-19 May at Mpesa Foundation Academy in Thika, and will see participants from various counties battle it for the top crown.
Among the counties in attendance as of Friday are: Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Laikipia, Uasin Gishu, Nyeri, Kisumu and Machakos.
With more than 1,000 entries confirmed, last year’s defending champions Braeburn School find themselves in a tough spot as they will face stiff competition from prominent clubs such as Seahorses Aquatics, who embarked on an intensive three-week training camp in Machakos in readiness for the two-day event.
Other notable schools participating include: Mombasa Aquatics, Torpedoes Swimming Club, Crawford School, Swift Kids, Bandari, Otters, Blue Ocean and Sailfish.
The event is expected to act as a qualifier for this year’s 9th Africa Aquatics Zone Three Swimming Championships, and the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Burundi and Budapest respectively.
The championship has also secured backing from a number of sponsors and partners, including: Yingfa Swimwear, Optiven Real Estate, Zetech University, Genesis Sports Limited, Avenue Healthcare, TW Solar and M&E Sportswear.
