Golf: Kenya wins opening rounds of Victoria Cup

Action continues on Saturday ag Limuru Country Club.

Skipper Dennis Maara, teamed up with Michael Karanga to get the better of the Ugandan duo of Godfrey Nsubuga and Tom Jingo and start a perfect run as Kenya won the first two rounds of the Victoria Cup. 

The First and Second rounds of the three-day 2022 Victoria Cup kicked off at Limuru Country Club on Friday 29 July. 

The format of the first round was four ball where eight players braved the misty chilly cold Limuru weather with Maara and Karanga teeing off at 8.30 am. 

The duo won the first round 3/2 and 7/6 on the second round, yo lead Kenya to a clean sweep in the first round.

"We are ready for another win and to keep the trophy home," said team captain Maara.

The Second round was tight for team Kenya as juniors Njoroge Kibugu and Andrew Wahome lost to Joseph Cwinyaai and Joseph Akena 3/2.

Adel Balala teamed with Sammy Mulama to face off with Joseph Kasozi and Michael Alunga while Ibrahim Bagalana and Dennis Asaba of Uganda played against John Lejirma and Daniel Kiragu

 Kenya has won the event three times since its inauguration in 2016. Uganda won the event in 2019. The event did not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid 19 Pandemic.
