Spectators will begin their interaction with the crews in Nairobi, at the City Hall Way

Organizers of this year’s World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally slated for Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 March have promised an exciting event for both crews and spectators as the global event since its reinstatement on the FIA series.

With renowned drivers set to grace the event, fans can get their autographs at designated points, including at the newly-introduced rally village at Naivasha’s Leleshwa Area in Morendat Farm.

Leleshwa is 6 km off Naivasha town on the way to Nakuru just before the Morendat turn-off. An 8km stage that is entirely a spectator zone offers an exciting four days. Some days it will be a competitive stage and on other days the drivers will be there for autographs.

“The spectator points, which have been increased, will be communicated clearly. They will also be more organized as opposed to previous editions and the spectators will enjoy closer interactions with their favourite drivers,” Event Director Norris Ongalo announced.

Spectators will begin their interaction with the crews in Nairobi, at the City Hall Way where the flagging off will take place, as opposed to KICC. The exciting Kasarani SSS1, to be run in reverse from previous editions, offers another chance for rally enthusiasts to experience the action.

“We want them (spectators) lining up the roads in Nairobi. Unlike previous years when they were restricted from accessing KICC, this time round they have the opportunity to watch the cars moving out. Only the Parc Ferme will be located at KICC so that we don’t lose the iconic feature of the center,” Ongalo says.

On Wednesday 19 March, organizers have set up two areas within the Shakedown Area at Sleeping Warrior’s Special Export Zone for fans to get close to the action.

What’s more, the iconic Kedong, which has been significantly shortened just to feature the Miti Mbili jump, will have spectator zones at the start and finish. Camp Moran, a new route never rallied before has three viewing points.

On the penultimate day of the rally, drivers will tackle the Sleeping Warrior Stage which has spectator zones in Soysambu and Elementaita while the final day offers more such action with the prize giving ceremony at Hell’s gate calibrated for the spectators.
