The postponement follows another in February where the rally was swapped with the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally

The 2024 Equator Rally Kenya has been postponed to a later date following the recent spate of heavy rains in the country.

The announcement, released by the African Rally Championship and Kenya Motorsport Federation on Friday, indicates that new dates for the event “will be communicated as soon as the administrative processes have been completed.”

The rally, which was due to take place from June 28-30, has now, with the latest development, been postponed for the second time after being switched from its original October date.

The decision - to swap Equator Rally with the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally- was taken as Rwanda's national elections coincided with the latter’s initial date of June.

“Stages are swamped and it is not possible to drive or access the areas where the rally is planned to take place,” read ARC’s statement. “Preparations for this event have come to a complete stop.”

KMSF added: “We have applied to the FIA for approval of the date change due to the current circumstances.

“The request has been accepted in principle, but the final decision lies with the World Motorsport Council. We are waiting for this approval before the new dates can be communicated.”
