The main aim of the trials is to select para-athletes who will represent Kenya in subsequent national, regional, and international IPC events

The Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC), in association with the County Government of Uasin Gishu, is set to host the Para Athletics National Trials at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium from January 18–20, 2024.

The trials will feature all events in the para-athletic track and field disciplines.

The main aim of the trials is to select para-athletes who will represent Kenya in subsequent national, regional, and international IPC events, including the Tunis Games slated for March 2024 and the Japan World Championships penciled for May 2024.

All these will help the athletes sharpen their skills in readiness for the Paris 2024 Olympics, set for Friday, July 26, to Sunday, August 11. The athletes will also use the event to prepare for the Paralympic Games.

In a letter seen by Mozzart Sport, the KNPC called on all interested parties to turn up for the trials. The committee also urged the participants to cater for their transport and accommodation to the venue of the competition.

The devolved unit noted that it would take care of the logistics, planning, and security of participants during the three-day event.

“The invited parties include, but are not limited to, para-athletes in primary and secondary special schools, tertiary institutions including colleges and universities with para-athletes, clubs hosting para-athletes, counties sponsoring para-athletes, and any other interested parties that wish to advance Paralympic sport in Kenya,” part of the letter read.

According to the organizers, led by Joseph Ochieng, who doubles up as a member of the LOC Uasin Gishu county government, they were leaving no stone unturned in making the event a resounding success.

Ochieng also invited interested athletes to the City of Champions, urging them to use the opportunity to prove themselves to the world.

“I want to welcome all interested athletes to compete in the upcoming trials. This will be a great stage for them to showcase their talents, and who knows, they might be the ones we are looking for. This year, we are looking at building para-athletics, and the several events lined up will propel us to achieving our dreams,” he concluded.
