Action continues on Sunday at University of Nairobi basketball courts.

Equity Dumas sprung to the top of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men's league following their 72-54 win against Strathmore Blades in a match played on Saturday at University of Nairobi grounds.

The bankers headed to the match ranked third at 18 points, one behind the top two teams that will not be in action this weekend.

Victory against the varsity side takes them to 20 points as their journey gets to the halfway point, having played their 11 matches of the first leg.

Against Blades, the Carey Odhiambo-led side dominated the fixture with this season's new signings Victor Bosire and James Mwangi leading the scoring at 16 and 14 respectively.

"We are top of the table so there is definitely pressure to remain in that position as it gives us better match-ups when the playoffs begin. We have now played all the teams and as we prepare for the repeat leg, we know they will come hard at us, but winning in the first leg is a morale booster," offered Dumas' skipper Bosire.

The bankers began the match on a high scoring 21 against 17 but played for a better second quarter to score a similar number of points but restricting Blades, who had themselves to blame for lots of missed layups, to 13 this time.

The 12-point difference meant Odhiambo's charges can take their foot off the gas in the second half where they scored 18-7 in the third quarter to move the advantage to 23 points which was enough to win them.thearch despite Blades outscored them 17-14 in the final period.

"Team work both offensively and defensively was our winning factor against Blades. There was no standout player, we got points from everyone, we moved the ball better and were able to blow them away.

Despite the win we still have work to do if our target of winning the championship is to be realised. We are not there yet. We need to be consistent in a our matches," added Bosire.

His tactician echoed his sentiments saying that they had prepared well for Blades and focus now shifts to the second leg as the job is only halfway done.

This is Blades' third loss in eight matches. However, the Tony Ochieng-led side have a chance to redeem themselves when they take on Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks on Sunday.
