Kenya plays Botswana on Thursday from 1.30 pm as Uganda takes on Rwanda from 9.30am

National men’s cricket team on Wednesday 14 June registered their fourth win at the 2023 Continent Cup T20 Africa Tournament, defeating Rwanda by seven wickets, in a match staged at the Nairobi Gymkhana Grounds in Nairobi on the fifth day of action.

The hosts were coming off a defeat in the hands of Uganda who on Tuesday rampaged their way to total of 175 for 7 as they got their cold revenge over Kenya by 47 runs in the second match-up between the two sides.

The four-team competition, involving hosts Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Botswana has all participants facing each other three times with the top two teams clash in a 21 June- scheduled final.

Wednesday’s victory puts Kenya top of the table with eight points from five matches, tied with Uganda but with a superior net run rate (NRR) of 1.893 against the latter’s 1.600. Rwanda and Botswana are third and fourth respectively.

The match was the two sides’ second meeting in the competition. Rwanda won the toss, electing to bat first and went on to hit 92 runs all-out in 20 overs of their innings.

Kenya hit 98 runs in 14 overs of their innings in a match that saw 18-year-old Vishil Patel make his T20 and T20I debut as wicket keeper 22-year-old Sukhdeep Sigh was named the man of the match.

Sigh finished with 37 runs from 37 balls with two fours and one six to help Kenya register their second win over their Rwandese counterparts, having won by three wickets in their opening encounter.

“It is good to bounce back with a win. Today we executed a bit better. Our plans were in place. In the last match against them we were trying something that did not really work. The boys were more brilliant today in terms of execution and they got the right intensity. When we came out to bowl, we put them under pressure early on so they were struggling. At the end of the day, it is good to have the win in the bag,” captain Brian Masaba offered after Cranes’ victory.
