They will be hoping to go through as one of the best losers

Kenya's beach volleyball pair of Brackcides Agala and Gaudencia Makokha saw off Ghana's duo of Juliana Otcherewaa and Rashaka Katadat 2-1 in their last group match on Wednesday evening to keep their hope of advancing to the quarters alive, albeit hanging by the thread.

Ghana started on a high, claiming the first set 21-16 but the Kenyans fought back to claim the second 21-17 and push the match to a deciding set, which they won 15-12 to clinch their first victory in Birmingham after losing back to back matches in Pool A.

They started their commonwealth campaign by losing their opening match by straight sets to New Zealand's Alice Zeimann and Shaunna Polley on Saturday night before falling to defending champions Canada with the same scoreline, but Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes were more lethal on the set scores.

Currently, they are third on the standings and their qualification to the last eight is pegged on the results of matches in other pools where they will be hoping to go through as one of the two best losers.

Kenya was drawn in a tricky Pool 'A' alongside defending champions Canada, New Zealand and Ghana.

The top two teams in each pool will earn automatic tickets to the quarter-final with the best loser of each group joining them.
