Attacker had a good display at the Olympics for Malkia Strikers and followed it up with another solid showing at the Women's CAVB African Nations Championship

Malkia Strikers and KCB Women's Volleyball team opposite attacker Sharon Chepchumba has recounted her experience at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Kenya was making a return to the summer games after a lengthy hiatus and the former Kenya Pipeline player says it was a great learning experience despite bowing out of the competition without winning a single set.

The player revealed that Malkia Strikers were charged up in their run to qualification thanks to the extra push from some of the experienced players including Jane Wacu.

Speaking on Radull Live, Chumba, as she is commonly referred to as, said that playing at that level was a dream come true for her and her teammates owing to the work that they put in their qualification.

"Playing at the Olympics was a dream come true because we really fought for that qualification. The likes of Wacu (Jane) were really hoping to go to the Olympics because they had played for so many years without qualifying and kept telling us that we had to qualify. It was really a nice experience and for anyone open to learning, we learnt so many things from different players and teams," Chumba said.

Chepchumba had a good display at the competition despite the overall results, including her trademark ferocious attacks thanks to his physique which she said helps her in her attacking role.

The former Kenya Prisons player also noted that her performance in the competition was by a great deal contributed by her strong believe and trust in herself which has kept her going all along.

"I really trust and believe in myself and it keeps pushing me in games. There is a spirit in me that keeps pushing me. My physique is an advantage because I am tall and strong. I cannot receive the ball as well as Moim can do. She can receive, attack, and serve well but the moment they receive and I have the opportunity to attack, I hit it with power," she added.
