Kenya was suspended in February
Outspoken Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has lauded Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Ababu Namwamba for brokering for the lifting of suspension imposed on Kenyan football.
Kenya had been in FIFA's bad books since February following the move by former Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to disband the federation in November last year.
However, Namwamba led from the front in negotiating and meeting the irreducible minimums set by the world's governing body for the suspension to be lifted as soon as he assumed office.
His efforts paid off last week as FKF confirmed that Zurich had reviewed the sanctions imposed on Kenya much to the delight of football fraternity that had been locked out of international matches.
Cherargei who has been vocal on matters local sports said Namwamba had demonstrated astute leadership in fighting for the return to normalcy.
"I welcome the move by FIFA to lift the suspension imposed on Kenya. I salute the minister for leading by an example. However, he should not stop there for there a number of issues at the federation that needs to be streamlined so that the sport can be governed well," he said.
Cherargei spoke during the launching of the second edition of the Heroes Volleyball tournament that is set to be held early next month at the Koitalel Samoei University grounds.
At the same time, Cherargei called for the severe punishment to be meted to the promoters and sympathizers of doping.
He said the athlete who violate the anti-doping rules should not carry the cross alone, rather he/she should be punished alongside the accomplices.
" We should not punish the athlete alone. The sanctions should be meted to those who conspire with the athlete to take the banned substance," he said.
Further, he called for proper vetting and registration foreign coaches before permitting them to do business in the country.
