Bronze for Kenya as All Africa Golf tourney concludes

Team Kenya's quartet to this year's All Africa Golf Team Championship managed third place after four rounds of golf at the at the El Gouna Golf club in Hurghada, Red Sea Governorate, Egypt.

The Championship event remains one of the most prestigious golf competitions in Africa. It is held bi-annually and is played using the Eisenhower format and is a 72 hole stroke play played over three days. Each country is represented by a team of four players.

Team scores are obtained by adding the best three of the four gross scores. The trophy is awarded to the team with the lowest aggregate score.

Captained by Dennis Maara, Team Kenya that also included John LejirmaMichael Karanga and Adel Balala started the event well, posting scores of 71,71,71,76 on the first round to place third with a three under-par. 

The second round was tougher for the Kenyans as they played for three over par 219 to lower their aggregate score to par and were knocked off the podium place by Tunisia as Morocco and South Africa maintained top two positions. 

On the third round, however, the quartet played their best round of golf at the championship to go five under and get themselves back to the podium ahead of a Tunisian side that has a steady score of 215, 216 and 214. 

Balala, who on the final round shot a 67, was the only Kenyan to make it to the top ten of the individual ranking, tied in sixth place at seven under par 281. 

Morocco took top honours while South Africa won silver ahead of Kenya.
