In a surprising turn of events, Cricket Kenya has terminated the contract of Dodda Ganesh as the head coach of the men's national Cricket Team, with barely two weeks left before the 2024-2026 ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) Challenge League A tournament set to take place in Nairobi.
The decision was officially communicated to the former India international cricketer via an electronic letter dated Thursday 12 September 2024.
Ganesh was unveiled as the team's coach on Tuesday 13 August 2024, at a ceremony held at the Sikh Union Club, Nairobi.
However, in a resolution passed by the Cricket Kenya Executive Board on Wednesday 28 August 2024, his appointment was declared irregular due to procedural flaws.
According to the letter signed by Pearlyne Omamo, the Director of Women’s Cricket on behalf of the Cricket Kenya Board, the contract between Ganesh and the federation, supposedly made on Wednesday 7 August 2024, was deemed void.
Cricket Kenya cited the failure to follow established procedures as the key reason for their decision, adding that the contract was not ratified by the board.
“You are therefore directed to cease any further engagement or dealings with the Men’s Cricket National Team with immediate effect,” read the letter, which also stated that Ganesh's claims or concerns should be directed towards Manoj Patel, the individual involved in the irregular appointment.
This development leaves the national team in the hands of coaches Joseph Angara and Lameck Onyango just days before they begin their ICC CWC Challenge League A campaign on Wednesday 25 September 2024.
