It was an anti-climax to a busy volleyball weekend as the clash between GSU and rivals Prisons was abandoned after two sets due to a poorly lit Nyayo Indoor Arena.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men's league continued last weekend with matches held from Thursday through to Sunday as teams look to make the top four for a chance to fight for the title.

Sunday's action saw leaders Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) pick yet another victory in a straight-sets 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) win over Prisons Rift Valley yo extend their stay at the helm.

Coach Sammy Mulinge's charges won all their weekend matches 3-0, against Prisons Mombasa (25-16, 25-19, 25-15), Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) (25- 17, 25-17, 25-16), a walkover against Vihiga County before the win against Prisons Rift Valley.

Meanwhile, General Service Unit (GSU) who had picked wins in their previous matches but for a 3-2 victory against Equity Bank that saw the Gideon Tarus-led side drop a point, saw their final march of the weekend against Kenya Prisons abandoned.

With the paramilitary side leading 2-0 against the warders and the third set already on, complaints of the poorly lit gymnasium erupted from a section of the fully packed gym forcing the officials to stop the match and deliberate on the next course of action. The match was shelved for a later date.

"I have no problem with the decision made. There was a suggestion to play the remaining part of the match outdoors but that wasn't agreed on so we will prepare to face them at a later date," said Tarus who liked set to lead his charges to a 3-0 victory against the David Lung'aho coached side.

Two matches ended in a 3-2 outcome as Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Prisons Nyanza laboured to defeat Administration Police (AP) and Prisons Nairobi respectively in such outcomes.

"This was a tough match for us as we did not intend to drop any points but we have dropped one. I am, however, happy with the two points. This season's league is very competitive and any point gained is good.

Now we have to shift our focus on the remaining six matches, taking it one game at a time as we fight to finish in a playoff position," offered KFS head coach Wachira Gatuiria.
