
Athletes troop to Kasarani for Youth Commonwealth Games preparation

Former 800m World Champion, Janeth Jepkosgei, will be the General Team Manager (GTM)
38 athletes have officially reported to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani to kick off preparations for the seventh edition of the Youth Commonwealth Games set to be held in Trinidad and Tobago between August 4-11.
Kenya will be represented by athletes drawn from various disciplines among them is Athletics (400m men and women, 800m men and women, 4x400m mixed relay, women's javelin throw, 1500m men and women, 3000m men, and women).
Cycling (Road Race), Para Athletics, Women's Rugby 7s, Swimming (100m Men Freestyle and 50m Freestyle), Triathlon (men and women), and Beach Volleyball (women) will also, have representatives.
Former 800m World Champion, Janeth Jepkosgei, will be the General Team Manager (GTM).
Jepkosgei, the 800m gold medalist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, exuded passion and commitment to the success of Team Kenya.
In her role as GTM and as an ambassador for education and sports, Jepkosgei emphasized the importance of thorough preparations before embarking on their journey.
"Together with the coaches, I'm looking forward to having active and intense preparation for the athletes. These are our future champions, and we owe it to them to give our absolute best," she said.
Beyond her remarkable track achievements, Jepkosgei fits the role perfectly. She has set up the Kapchemoiywo Camp known as Shoes4Africa, dedicated to nurturing young talents in the county named the Source of Champions.
Speaking about her passion for children in school and sports, she emphasized the importance of teaching them about clean sports, transitions, and the value of education.
Kenya made a resounding impact in the previous edition of the Games held in Bahamas, securing four medals; gold medals in the 1500m by John Mwangi, gold in the 3000m by Edwin Kiplagat.
Emmaculate Chepkirui was at a double as she mined gold and silver in the 3000m and 1500m respectively.
Leading the charge as the team's Chef de Mission is Executive member, Winnie Kamau.
