Meanwhile, Malkia Strikers on Saturday made it two wins on the bounce after conquering Nigeria

Kenya men’s national volleyball side Wafalme Stars kept their emphatic run in the African Games going after seeing out Gambia 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 28-26) in a game played at MUH Multipurpose Hall in Ghana .

The win was the third in a row for the Kenyan side, and one that meant that they had secured a spot in the quarter-finals without dropping a set.

Wafalme Stars had on Friday evening served out another 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-14) victory over hosts Ghana, and coupled with the earlier win over Chad, makes them a favorite heading into the latter rounds.

Kenya are aiming to better their bronze medal in the 2011 Games in Maputo, and could be pooled against either of the Pool A teams including Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria or Burkina Faso.

Egypt, like Kenya, are unbeaten thus far, securing all wins against their opponents and could prove a big test.

The women’s side - Malkia Strikers - on Saturday made it to two wins after dismissing Nigeria 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-12).

Japheth Munala’s side will look to make it three when they play DR Congo on Monday before wrapping up their Pool B status with a tasty matchup against Algeria.

Elsewhere at Theodosia Okoh Stadium, Kenya women’s national hockey side suffered defeat in their opening game of the competition after going 4-1 down to hosts Ghana.

The Kenyan side, rocked with poor preparation and planning prior to the tournament, once trailed 4-0 at the end of the third period before scoring a late consolation - a penalty - through Vivian Onyango in the 56th minute.

Ghana’s goals were scored by team captain Elizabeth Opoku, Berko Mavis and Vivian Narkuor.

Kenya will be back on the field on Monday 18 March against South Africa from 1300 EAT.
