Lejirma leads KAGC rankings after the Manchester Salver with 523.1 points, 48.7 ahead of second-placed Jay Sandhu.

Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Kiambu Open leg enters round two on Sunday 20 November with home golfer Michael Karanga holding a slim advantage after Saturday's opening round.

Karanga returned a score of four under par 68 to lead the scoreboard, four shots ahead of closest competitor Uganda's Michael Alunga who shot level par for second place.

Joseph Gathumbi returned a score of 73 for third place as junior golfer John Wambari and Simon Karari competed the top five places with four over par 76.

Golfers are chasing KAGC points with the winner guaranteed of a ticket to next year's European Tour's Magical Kenya Open.

The Kenya Amateur Strokeplay and Matchplay winners as well as the KAGC winner secure places in the Kenya Open and while Railways' John Lejirma has already secured his slot after winning the Strokeplay, he is chasing the series title.

In Kiambu, he shot 76 in round one and has an uphill task as he looks to have a better round on Sunday to clinch the leg and more points to advance his title chase.

Lejirma leads the rankings after the Manchester Salver, where he finished 11th, with 523.1 points, 48.7 ahead of second-placed Jay Sandhu.

Uganda’s Alunga, winner of the last leg, the Manchester Salver, is third on the log having accumulated 436.9 points.

The Railways resident golfer admits that going up against home golfer Karanga will be no mean feat as the latter has an edge.
