This will be the first time the competition will be held at Ruiru Sports Club
Leading female golfers will go head-to-head in the three-day Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Open Debut set for Ruiru Sports Club from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 April.
The highly anticipated event, which has attracted golfers from across the region, will take place at the 18-hole Par 73 course for the first time, a testament to how much the club and its ladies’ section have grown.
“Players will have a fantastic experience,” Lady Captain Rodah Mukami said on Thursday. “This being the first time for the ladies in Ruiru makes it even more special. We as a club are ready to make it a memorable event.”
The Golfer of the Year (GOTY) edition will also see the introduction of an exciting new format, a 36-hole subsidiary event running alongside the 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) tournament.

This subsidiary event aims to provide more opportunities for competitive play, allowing a broader field of golfers to experience the intensity and prestige of the KLGU Open.
Among the top contenders will be three-time GOTY champion Mercy Nyanchama, who will be looking forward to winning the gong for the fourth time on the spin.
“I’m hoping to play well at Ruiru and am excited to participate this weekend,” the Njoro Golf Club golfer said. “This is a fantastic opportunity to not only enjoy the sport, but also connect with fellow golfers, and I’m looking forward to a day of good competition, camaraderie and of course, some great golf.”
Nyanchama and Eldoret Golf Club’s former Lady Captain Esther Chumo are currently tied at the top with 20 points, and are followed by Golf Park Golf Club’s Margaret Njoki, who sits third on 18 points.
Chumo and Njoki are also expected to battle it out at this prestigious KLGU Open Meeting, and look to scoop more GOTY points.
Joyce Wanjiru of Kiambu Golf Club will also provide local competition, coupled by a string of elite amateurs from neighboring Uganda and Tanzania.
