She will now shift her base from Poland to Antibes, France
Kenyan swimming prodigy Sara Mose has landed a prestigious World Aquatics Swimming Scholarship for the 2024-2025 season.
The development, confirmed by Kenya Aquatics on Tuesday, will see the 17-year-old shift her training to Antibes, France after being based in Poland for a while.
Mose, who recently participated in this year’s African Games in Accra, Ghana, now gets extra motivation after shining at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago last year.
"Sara Mose is one of the promising stars in Kenyan swimming, and we are glad that she has gotten a prestigious scholarship from World Aquatics which will go a long way to motivate other swimmers," Collins Marigiri, Secretary General of Kenya Aquatics said. “We are more than ready as a federation to work with all athletes to see them excel in their swimming careers. This is just a beginning and more are coming."
In Trinidad, Mose, who was also registered in the 100m Backstroke, got to swim a personal best in the women's 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, kicking off her international debut in style.
Her performance at the Games, where she battled hard against top swimmers from Australia, England, Wales, and Trinidad and Tobago, is a testament to her talent and potential.
Meanwhile, Marigiri has called for unity among stakeholders to further develop the sport saying: "My humble request to swimming stakeholders is to work together and embrace togetherness rather than fighting one another. There is so much potential in this swimming if people work together with resilience.”
Mose’s story hopes to inspire the next generation of athletes, and highlights the nation's potential on the global stage.
