The school boys are ranked ninth after six matches
School boys Makueni Bees are not letting their status in the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's leagues stop them from churning out good results.
The Gerald Juma-led side have been on the court three times, winning twice, but had given three walkovers in their opening weekend of action as they were unable to travel to Nairobi to honour their fixtures.
As they look to settle in the league and find a balance between league action and the upcoming Secondary School games, skipper Yusuf Pwoka says the side will build on the momentum gained from last weekend's action to challenge even the best of the teams in the league.
On Saturday, the high school side picked their first victory in a 36-34 outcome against Ranger HC before later subjecting Young City to their seventh defeat in a 32-25 outcome.
"We had prepared well for our third weekend of action in the league. We got a chance to gauge our performance the previous weekend in a clash against Buccaneers and lost narrowly in a 34-31 outcome. We got back to training knowing what to work on and we can say it really worked as we won the two games played last weekend," said Pwoka.
Pwoka, Dalmas Ngichabe and Emmanuel Laisa top scored with six goals each in the Young City victory while John Abel led the scoring with eight goals against Rangers. Ngichabe and Richard Simiyu added seven each as Juma defeated the Kimilili-based Rangers.
"For the two matches won, we had to give it our all especially in the match against Rangers who are a good side with very experienced players who pushed us to the limit. Despite the win, we still have our work cut out in defense. We have a few lapses that need to be rectified. We also have to sharpen our quick starts and make sure we are in sync so that our fast breaks can work. We also have to be clinical in our finishing and ensure our target shooting is on point. We go some chances stopped that should have otherwise been converted had we been more careful," added the skipper.
The students take a break from action next weekend with schools closed and are expected to feature after.
