President Ruto nominates Kipchumba Murkomen as new Sports Cabinet Secretary

Murkomen replaces Ababu Namwamba in the sports docket after the former was axed following President Ruto's dissolvement of the entire cabinet back on Thursday 11 July
After 13 days of vacancy, President William Ruto on Wednesday 24 July nominated former Ministry of Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen as the new Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts pending parliament approval.
The Gor Mahia and Manchester United fan replaces Ababu Namwamba in the sports docket after the former was axed following President Ruto's dissolvement of the entire cabinet back on Thursday 11 July.
The sweeping changes announced by President Ruto include Treasury - John Mbadi, Trade - Salim Mvurya, Tourism - Rebecca Miano, Energy - Opiyo Wandayi, Mining - Hassan Joho, Labour - Alfred Mutua, Cooperatives - Wycliffe Oparanya, Public Service - Justin Muturi, Gender - Stella Langat.
The 10 fresh batch of nominated Cabinet Secretaries will have to undergo vetting by the Kenyan parliament before officially approving office.
Last Friday, 10 other Cabinet Secretaries were nominated by the president with five of those being those who held office before the dissolution of the cabinet.
The initial 10 included, Aden Duale (Environment), Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Alice Wahome (Land), Soipan Tuya (Defense), Davis Chirchir (Transport), Dr. Debra Mlongo (Health), Julius Migosi Ogamba (Education), Margaret Nyambura Ndung'u (ICT), Andrew Muhia (Agriculture) and Eric Muriithi Muuga (Water).
The former Elgeyo Marakwet Senator has previously had an interest in sports as he criticized the use of Sports Fund money in other sectors.
“We have a problem in the Ministry of Sport and management of sport in this country. We would like to know how much of Sports Fund is being used for sports because we are told billions of money that was meant for sports is now being used in Universal Healthcare,” Murkomen said.
Immediate on Murkomen's plate will be the Paris 2024 Olympics that will officially start on Friday 26 July and the renovations of stadia to meet CAF and FIFA standards to allow national teams to host matches in the country.
