The KBF leagues are scheduled to resume on Saturday 27 August.
Africa Nazarene University (ANU) men’s basketball side, Wolfpacks have proven to be no pushovers as they made their debut to the top tier Kenyan league and coach Mike Oluoch is keen to see them make the top eight at first asking.
Promoted to the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) premier league this season, Oluoch’s charges have played for six wins in eight matches, going down to Nairobi City Thunder and former champions Ulinzi Warriors. Their wins included a massive victory against holders Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
However, the tactician is wary the general election-occasioned break could potentially set the team back a great deal as players have not been training for close to three weeks now.
“The players are yet to return to training after the break. The league is supposed to resume on 27 August but there has not been any communication as to whether there will be changes to the fixture so we are still waiting on that clarification.
I am, however, well aware that the gains we had made could be lost since the players are not able to continue with training.
First order of business when we get back to training will be to repair any damages done and get the squad back to the form they were in,” offered Oluoch in an interview with Mozzart Sport.
The side is looking to make it to the top eight at the conclusion of the regular season so at to feature in the playoffs with the tactician keen to keep the team’s expectations at the playoff stage modest.
“I cannot say we will be going for the trophy but if we get there, it will be a bonus. My squad has an edge over a majority of the teams due to our team chemistry and the fact that all the players are brilliant individually and that has, in a major way, boosted our performance.
We know it is still early days so we will take it one game at a time and have fun on our way to hitting the set target,” the tactician added.
The varsity side is third on the log, behind holders KPA and Warriors after eight matches.
