This year's event stands out not only for its inaugural swimming event, but also for the potential life-changing opportunities it offers
Nine Kenyan schools and teams have confirmed their participation in the upcoming inaugural East African Chipkizi Swimming Championships set to take place at Braeburn - Arusha from 16-17 December 2023.
The teams expected include: Umoja Sharks, Nyahururu Elite, Pioneer School, Woodcreek School, Supermalins, Juja Preparatory, Potterhouse School, Dashing Dolphins and Makini Sports Academy.
Sanctioned by the Tanzania National Sports Council, the gala, which will take place alongside the East African Chipkizi Soccer Cup, will not just be a showcase of athletic prowess, but also a beacon of opportunity for emerging talents.
Teams from across the East African region will converge, bringing together both seasoned swimmers and novices.
The championship, adhering strictly to World Aquatics rules and regulations, promises a fair and competitive environment.
Teams from Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Tanga, Moshi and Arusha have eagerly registered for the event.
Among the most recent entrants are Leopard Sharks Swim Club from Moshi and Riptide Swimming Club in Arusha, who are brimming with excitement to compete against fellow East African teams.
The event's organization has garnered widespread praise from stakeholders, who commend the efforts of Future Stars Academy, the initiators of the Chipkizi Cup over 13 years ago.
Future Stars Academy has in the past received support from PIPSSA Kenya, a prominent grassroots swimming organization known for its role in organizing the annual Kampala Invitation Swimming Championship in Kampala.
The event is also expected to attract scouts from Nastic Sports Academy in Spain, who are eager to identify and nurture talented swimmers and soccer players from East Africa.
Guiding the academy will be Kenyan coach David Kenga.
