
Ksh 16.5 billion allocated for sports in 2024/25 budget

Last year’s allocation was Ksh 6.4 billion
Treasury, on Thursday 13 June, allocated Ksh 16.5 billion to the sports industry for the financial year 2024/25.
In a budget reading by Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, sports was allocated Ksh 23.7 billion through the Sports Fund while the Tourism Fund got Ksh 4.9 billion and Ksh 2.2 billion given to Tourism Promotion Fund.
This is an increase from the last financial year's budget allocation to the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund which stood at Ksh 6.4 billion.
“We are also cognizant of the brand value of Kenyans participating and excelling in international sports arena, I propose an allocation of Ksh16.5 billion to the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund,” his statement read.

Last year’s allocation of Ksh 6.4 billion was a reduction of more than half of the previous year's Ksh 15.8 billion.
Ahead of the budget process, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba highlighted the ministry's current budgetary constraints, urging support from the budget committee to meet nationwide commitments.
“We are struggling with the current budget allocation. Our funds are stretched with all the commitments around the country. We want more support from the exchequer,” he told the Star in an interview published in March.
