
Kenyan duo clinch medals in Zone Three Masters Swimming Championships, more national events lined up

The growth of master swimming programs was one of the priorities of the new Kenya Aquatics administration
President of Kenya Aquatics Dr. Maureen Owiti and seasoned Karen swim coach Nasser Motha put in an impressive showing as they bagged medals in the recently concluded Africa Aquatics Masters Championships.
The duo, who were also the lead team of Kenya's sujourn to the 8th Africa Aquatics Zone Three Swimming Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, followed up Kenya's recent success in their category, drawing up from past successes including proud achievements in last year's championships in Tanzania.
Their success was lauded by Kenya Aquatics Secretary General Collins Marigiri, who instead announced ambitious plans to bolster master swimming programs nationwide.
"We will next year be organizing a national masters swimming championship," Marigiri said, adding that the federation will seek to make a comprehensive database of master swimmers in the country.
In a related development, Kiambu County Aquatics Association (KCAA) will on Saturday December 9 2023 got a masters gala at Porterhouse School in Runda, expected to draw a host of master swimmers from various institutions across the country.
Participants in this event, are expected to walk away with cash prizes, individual, and team awards.
The revival of masters swimming was one of the new Kenya Aquatics delegation priorities as it came to office, and is seen as a platform to boost social networks, health, and also as a valuable asset in community development.
