The upcoming 3-day tournament will build on the momentum from the 9-Goal International Tournament which saw young players such as the 1-goal rated Jadini Nzomo pick up national team caps.
Polo action continues this weekend at the Nairobi Polo Club with the Casino Cup 6-Goal Tournament, the fourth event of nine in the 2023/24 polo season.
With each team boasting a combined handicap of 6, the indication is that the matches will see younger, newer players combine with more experienced players to provide great match-ups.
The upcoming 3-day tournament will build on the momentum from the 9-Goal International Tournament which saw young players such as the 1-goal rated Jadini Nzomo pick up national team caps.
Hosts Kenya showed determination and skill to pip a determined Zambia team by 3 goals to 2 at the 9-Goal International tourney with Nzomo and captain Archie Voorspuy scoring for Kenya.
The weekend’s action also had teams compete in the Gillies Turle trophy, which included Tusker Malt, Tanqueray, SBM Bank and SGA Security and the Fat Hippo trophy, which was contested by 24:7, Capital FM, Primarosa, and Live Eye, before the main event featuring the two national teams.
This year's Nairobi Polo Club season has seen a Ksh 3 million cash injection from SBM Bank Kenya as sponsorship aimed at promoting the sport.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, SBM Bank Kenya CEO, Moezz Mir said:
"We are proud to support the Nairobi Polo Casino Cup 6-Goal Tournament and be a part of this exciting event that showcases the beauty of polo and the dedication of the players. We look forward to an exhilarating tournament and wish all the teams taking part the best of luck."
Following the Casino Cup, there will be a three-month hiatus at the club, before polo returns to Nairobi on 23 December with the Chukkers and Carols Christmas Polo Tournament.
