Cricket: Kenya to participate in second edition of Victoria Series in Uganda

The Kenya National women’s cricket team will be among those set to take part in the upcoming Victoria Twenty 20 International (T20I) Series set to take place at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, Kampala from 18 April to 23 April this year, Mozzart Sport can confirm.

The Kenyan Lionesses team has been prepping up for the five-nation tournament for the past one week at the Sir Ali Muslim Club in readiness for what will be the team’s second appearance in the series now hosted by the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA).

This year’s tournament will, mark the second time it is being held after took place in 2019 and hosted by the same nation - Uganda.

The defending champions Zimbabwe will however not take part in the competition ‘due to other commitments’ while new nations; Rwanda, Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates will feature for the first time adding up to Kenya and hosts Uganda who participated in the inaugural edition of the Victoria Series.

Kenya’s last appearance in competitive cricket was late last year - in December- when they took part in the Kenya Women’s Quadrangular T20 Cricket Tournament that was hosted at the Nairobi Gymkhana Grounds.

The Lionesses team under Francis Otieno finished in the first runners up position after falling to invititational side Uganda by six wickets in the final.

Kenya scored 80 runs all out within 18.2 overs with Uganda chasing down the low run-rate to win with a whopping 51 balls to spare.

On the team, Otieno has named Sharon Juma to skipper the side with Esther Wangare deputizing her as the vice captain.
