National women's volleyball team coach Paul Bitok has urged teams to start registering and preparing for the second edition of the Eldoret City and the Heroes Volleyball tournaments set for Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties respectively.
The Heroes Community tournament is set for Mosoriot, in Nandi County from November 2 to 5 at Koitaleel Samoei University grounds, which will be preceded by the national league, while the Eldoret City Volleyball tournament will be played between December 8 and 9 at the Eldoret Sports Club.
The KVF deputy president noted that the tournament coincides with plans to elevate Eldoret to city status and they anticipate a bigger and better second edition.
“As Eldoret tourney gears up for its second edition, the resounding cheers of passionate sports enthusiasts are set to shake the very foundations of the city,” he said.
Organisers are expecting a maximum of 24 teams to grace the event at Eldoret Sports Club, with this year's edition set to unfold in various formats.
“It's not just any tournament, it’s a testament to years of hard work and dedication. This grand event is not a one-off show but a jewel in the crown, a legacy that traces back to 1998.
With a maximum of 24 teams poised to grace the courts, the competition will unfold in various formats, each adapting to the number of teams registered. The anticipation is palpable, the excitement electric, as teams are assigned to their respective pools,” he stated.
He continued, “Little did anyone know that this small spark, started with four teams, would ignite into a roaring fire of competition, gradually branching out from local to national and finally international status. However, the journey wasn't always smooth.”
Kenya Pipeline won the ladies' category of the inaugural Eldoret City Volleyball after edging arch-rivals Kenya Prisons by three sets to one (25-22, 26-25, and 25-20) while Kenya Defense Forces carried the men's category after emerging winners over Kenya Prisons three sets to one (25-21, 25-19, and 25-17).
The tournament attracted a total of 37 teams with winners pocketing Ksh 100,000, and the first runners-up went home Ksh50,000 richer.
