Okutoyi has six wins in 12 singles matches at Auburn this season

Kenyan tennis star Angella Okutoyi extended her school’s winning streak on Sunday as Auburn defeated big rivals Alabama 4-3 in the Southeastern Conference Play at the Yarbrough Center, Alabama.

Riding on a five game winning streak, second seed Auburn (11-2 in the season) dominated the single events led by freshman Okutoyi who registered a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Anne Marie Hiser

Other singles winners in the annual All-Auburn All-Orange match were teammates DJ Bennet who beat Klara Milicevic 6-4, 6-2, Adeline Flach and Carolyn Ansari.

The doubles were however rough for the Kenyan Wimbledon doubles junior champion as the Clemson Tide’s duo of Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak overpowered Okutoyi and junior Adeline Flach to a 6-3 set loss - one that snapped the duo’s five game winning streak this season.

Auburn’s win was the third annual meeting win over Alabama and pushed their winning run to six consecutive games. Auburn are currently the second seeds from the ITA rankings released last week Tuesday.

Okutoyi’s season stats now stand at six wins in 12 single matches - with two of those games against UCF and Pepperdine University being unfinished.

Her doubles record on the other hand has only three losses in the same number of matches played.

The Auburn Tigers next play University of Mississippi on Friday, March 10 2023.
