Alexandra Ndolo crowned African fencing champion

Ndolo is hoping to qualify for the Summer Games even as her eligibility to represent Kenya continues to be resolved.

German-born Kenyan fencer Alexandra Ndolo has won the African Senior Women's Épée competition held in Egypt to be crowned the African champion in the category.

Ndolo who switched her allegiance from Germany to Kenya last year put up a fight against 23 other competitors to emerge top for a crucial victory as she looks to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Fencing CAE African Championships 2023 got underway on 19 June and are to conclude on 23 June with the senior men’s foil and senior women’s saber slated for 21 June.

On Tuesday, Ndolo finished above Algerian Taleb Ines El Batoul with Moroccan Bousfiha Chloe finishing tied in third place with home player Hussein Aya.

He performance was enough to see Kenya finish second on the team log, behind hosts Egypt who have so far collected three gold medals, three silver and a similar number of bronze medals so far.

Ndolo is hoping to qualify for the Summer Games and see her switch from Germany to Kenya resolved quickly to have her eligible to represent her father’s country on the grand stage.

The fencer, after expressing interest in representing Kenya in International Fencing events - more so the Paris 2024 Olympic Games- acquired a release letter from the German Fencing Federation on 9 September 2022 that was later approved by the International Fencing Federation on 17 September, confirming her request for change of nationality.

Thereafter on 24 April 2023, the National Olympic Committee - Germany, gave her a waiver of no objection. IOC waiting period is yet to be actualized but the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) is hoping for a node of approval.
