Bottom placed Zoo FC head coach has blamed his players for cowering when faced with record Kenyan champions

After a chest-thumping before the Gor Mahia clash, Zoo FC head coach Herman Iswekha has been forced to eat his own words by claiming his players were scared of K’Ogalo.

Iswekha had rubbed Gor Mahia fans the wrong way after claiming that the reigning champions are ordinary without their fans and was confident of a win. Instead of the victory he projected over K'Ogalo, Iswekha's charges fell to goals by Samuel Onyango, Kenneth Muguna and a late peach by Sydney Ochieng.

The coach claimed his players were jittery ahead of the Gor Mahia clash and his defense lacked composure leading to them conceding three goals in the game.

“My defense was not organized today because if you look at the goals we have conceded, they are similar to the mistakes we had against Mathare.

“The players were also scared because they were facing Gor Mahia, when you hear the name it brings some sort of pressure but we will work on our mistakes as we focus on the coming matches,” said the coach.

Zoo are the only side in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) that is yet to win a game and are rooted to the bottom of the standing with two points from five games.

Iswekha aims to sharpen his team’s finishing having only scored three goals thus far this season and also tighten his rearguard that has shipped in nine goals.

“I want to improve on finishing because if you analyze the games we have played, we get changes but fail to score. My defense also lacks maturity.

“I commend my midfield for creating a number of chances, like today we also had numerous chances but we failed to capitalize on them,” he added.

Zoo next face Nzoia Sugar on Sunday, January 31 in a 3 PM kick-off at the Sudi Stadium.
