The Germans will shop City's right back

In recent years, Manchester City has managed to 'balance the books' by selling players who did not play a significant role in Pep Guardiola's team, and it seems this trend will continue this June The English champions have already cashed in 37,000,000 euros from the sales of Tommy Doyle (Wolverhampton), Sergio Gómez (Real Sociedad), and Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Southampton), and Yan Couto is on his way to fill the Citizens' coffers.

According to British media, the 22-year-old Brazilian is close to moving to Dortmund. Borussia and City are close to an agreement, with negotiations in the advanced stages, and only the details remain to be finalized before Couto heads to Westfalen. Etihad hoped to sell him for 30,000,000, but the Champions League finalist managed to secure a discount, so the right-back will strengthen the team for about 25 million including bonuses.

In any case, it’s a great deal for City considering Couto never even debuted for the first team of the Manchester club. He was only on the bench in the Community Shield against Leicester in August 2021 but did not get any playing time. He arrived at Etihad four years ago from Coritiba for 6,000,000, but he spent each of the previous seasons on loan. One season was at Braga, and the remaining three at Girona. In the last season, he particularly impressed, demonstrating his attacking potential. Although a right-back, Couto had a significantly more offensive role in the Catalan club's system, often playing as a winger. In 34 La Liga matches, he scored one goal and provided ten assists. His excellent performances in Spain also earned him a call-up to Brazil's senior national team, for which he has made four appearances since October last year.

It remains to be seen where new Borussia Dortmund coach Nuri Şahin envisions him in the formation, especially since Dortmund’s squad currently has only Julian Ryerson as a 'natural' right-back. If there are no surprises, Couto will be the German club's third signing this summer. The previous two came from Stuttgart—Serhou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton—for a combined total of 40,500,000. With the Brazilian, the total expenditure would rise to 65,500,000 and the Millionaires are certainly not done in this transfer window.
