It’s perfectly clear that The Special One is going to be Roma’s biggest star this season

Much has been said about the mentality of Jose Mourinho. The living legend of Porto, Inter and Chelsea, the man who managed the biggest clubs in the world, cannot stay away from the spotlight – even when he’s in charge of a training match! The new Roma boss was shown a red card during his side's 5-2 defeat to Real Betis in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The Special One has never been shy when expressing his views, however he went a step too far on this occasion and was dismissed along with midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini after marching onto the field of play to voice his frustration at a refereeing decision.

From that moment on Roma's discipline disintegrated as they eventually finished the match with just eight men on the pitch. The game was tied at 2-2 when Alex Moreno put the La Liga side in front in peculiar circumstances just before the hour mark.

The 28-year-old was through on goal after Roma defender Roger Ibanez accidentally deflected a cross onto his own crossbar, however, Moreno slipped as he went to contest the ball and eventually bundled it over the line using his left arm. The referee allowed the goal to stand which led the Italian side to surround him and Mourinho followed suit to join in with the protestations. The manager and Pellegrini were both dismissed and Roma went onto further self-implode.

Gianluca Mancini and Rick Karsdorp were also the recipients of red cards to leave the Serie A side with just eight players on the pitch, Betis made their numerical advantage count by scoring another two goals sealing a 5-2 win in the process.

Remarkably the incident was the third such on-field skirmish in which Roma have been involved in their last two matches. Mourinho's side kick-off their Serie A campaign at home to Fiorentina on August 22.
