After a short episode in Ukraine, one of the finest gems of African football stays in ex-USSR to pursue his managerial career
There's some strange yet powerful connection between Yaya Toure and post-Soviet areas that were once part of the mighty USSR.
After putting an end to his playing career in July 2020, the Ivorian agreed to join Ukrainian Premier League club Olimpik Donetsk as an assistant coach.
However, after four months at the club, he left that position to move to Russian Premier League side FC Akhmat Grozny.

His arrival was announced on the club's official Twitter account.
"А famous former player Yaya Toure will join FC Akhmat's coaching staff. The head coach Andrei Talalaev will decide which role will Toure been given. A contract is signed until the end of the 2021/2022 season, " the Chechen club stated.
Grozny is the capital of Chechnya, a constituent republic of Russia situated in the North Caucasus in Eastern Europe, close to the Caspian Sea. It was a place of dreadful wars during the '90s between Moscow and forces that were fighting for the independence of Chechnya. The country was devastated and tarnished, but it began its slow growth in the early '00s.
We sincerely hope Toure knows what he's doing and that this slow, modest, low-profile (and very distant) start of his coaching career is just a prelude for something much bigger and more prominent.
