Criticism of the Spaniard and his team has begun, prompting early discussions about a potential overhaul of the squad
Things are no longer going as smoothly as before – and now, Real Madrid is ready to respond by bringing in new stars.
Domestically, the situation looks perfect. In LaLiga, the "Royal Whites" hold a comfortable five-point lead over eternal rivals Barcelona and seem firmly on track to reclaim the title.
However, the mood in Madrid has shifted following a painful Champions League defeat to a struggling Liverpool side. Head coach Xabi Alonso has come under scrutiny in Spain. Critics point to his ongoing dispute with Vinicius Jr., as well as the team’s stagnant performances and tactical issues. Club executives have decided it’s time to act – with the primary goal of reinforcing the midfield.
Spanish outlets report that Alonso has drawn up a shortlist of four elite players to take charge in the center of the pitch. He’s said to be searching for someone who mirrors his own style as a player: a cerebral organizer with excellent vision, precision passing, and tactical intelligence. The names at the top of his list:
- Alexis Mac Allister (26) – Liverpool FC
- Enzo Fernandez (24) – Chelsea FC
- Adam Wharton (21) – Crystal Palace
- Vitinha (25) – Paris Saint-Germain
🚨 Adam Wharton is certainly on Real Madrid’s list, the scouting team view him as a great addition. @diarioas pic.twitter.com/qW2nfg9YsL

Enzo Fernández against Wolves:

83’
- 60/62 accurate passes (now think about the audacity of some of the passes he played)
- 0.55 expected assists
- 2 chances created
- 11 passes into final third
Simply put, Enzo was world class. THIS performance is what you pay £100m for. pic.twitter.com/XCHgbnoiRU
Alonso reportedly wants one of these players in the Spanish capital by next summer. Still, pulling off such a deal won’t be easy. Each of the four is a core figure at his respective club and would command a hefty fee. Moreover, it’s uncertain whether Liverpool, Chelsea, Palace, or PSG would even consider letting their midfield generals go.
Even so, Real Madrid remain optimistic. The allure of the club is as powerful as ever – and history shows that when Los Blancos truly want someone, doors tend to open.
