Despite teams taking hardlines following unresolved issues with FKF, matches continued on Friday

FKF Women Premier League (WPL) defending champions Police Bullets returned to the top of the table following a 2-1 comeback victory over Bungoma Queens, in a match staged at the Bungoma National Polytechnic on Friday.

Ahead of the match, Police were second on the log with 34 points, one shy of Ulinzi Starlets who went top after their mid-week win over Zetech Sparks, with Trinity Starlets closing the top three with 31 points.

Bungoma Queens were eighth on the log with 22 points, while Vihiga Queens who were also in action, sat fourth with 30 points.

Bungoma began their clash against Police on a high, taking full advantage of the home support to grab the lead in the eighth minute through Catherine Khaemba.

They continued to dominate play within the first 20 minutes, looking for a second one but Police managed to maintain the deficit at one goal.

The Law Enforcers began to grow into the game in the 20th minute, settling in midfield with Diana Wacera and Zaina Namuleme seeing the ball more.

The defending champions were rewarded for their efforts in the 41st minute through Emily Moranga who connected well to a Tereza Engesha ball to level the scores, as the teams proceeded to the break.

Police would then grab a winner in the 70th minute through a sublime free kick by Lorna Nyabuto after Margaret Kunihira had been brought down at the edge of the box.

With the win, Police went top with 37 points, two ahead of Ulinzi, who dropped to second as Bungoma remained eighth with 22 points.

In the other match of the day, Trinity Starlets secured an important 2-1 away victory over Vihiga Queens in a match staged at the Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.

Trinity scored in the first half through Hanifa Bakari and Eglay Mukwana in the 14th and 34th minute respectively, before the host pulled one back in the second half.

Trinity are now third with 34 points, while Vihiga lost pace with the leading pack, as they sit fourth with 30 points, seven shy of Police Bullets.
