WPL: Vihiga plotting against Gaspo in weekend highlight clash
Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 26.10.23. | 19:31
Last season the two sides fought for the title until the last three rounds
Holders Vihiga Queens will be looking to get back to winning ways when they take on Gaspo Women on Saturday 28 October at Stima Club from noon.
Vihiga are coming off a one-all draw against Police Bullets while Gaspo played to a 1-0 victory against Bungoma Queens and will look to keep the winning momentum going.
Coach Boniface Nyamunyamu, however, believes his side is capable of going past Gaspo if they can sort out their final-third shortcomings and go all out on attack.
“The plan is to win all the matches and retain the title. Dropping points against Police was not part of the plan but it is part of the game. We have identified areas that need working on, especially our finishing, and are confident we will do better in the next assignment,” the tactician offered.
The title-winning coach admits that the side needs a concrete striker as they have been converting midfielders to do the job.
“This (finishing) is something we have struggled with from last season. We have, however, improved this season,” the tactician highlighted, “Away from the pitch, we are also working on the players’ mental strength. We realized we struggle against the ‘bigger’ teams and lose focus when taking on such opponents.”

The four-time champions are chasing a four-match unbeaten run for a chance to remain top of the table and avoid dropping points again. In last season's encounters, the two sides played for a draw in Vihiga before the holders won 2-1 in a dead rubber clash played at the end of the season in Nairobi.
The other match of the day will see Beldine Odemba’s Police take on Wadadia FC.
