The league enters round 13 with one team already relegated, one on the verge and a tough battle at the top making it a two-horse race
Fireworks are expected when Women Premier League (WPL) leaders Kenya Police Bullets host champions Vihiga Queens in a possible league decider as a win for either side gives them a massive advantage in the title race.
Separated by a single goal, both sides remain undefeated so far, having played for a draw when they faced off in the first leg for one of their four draws.
The two sides have won 8 Bullets have scored two goals more than Vihiga but the latter has conceded one less hence the single goal difference.
Vihiga are coming off a 2-0 win over Kibera Soccer Women while Bullets picked a 3-0 victory against relegation-threatened Bungoma Queens. Both will look to keep their record clean.
In the first leg, the clash was a clear battle for defense with neither side carrying the day as the two settled for a one-all stalemate.
After a goalless first half, Vihiga looked dangerous after the break and it soon paid off as Tumaini Waliula took advantage of Bullets’ slackness in defense to punish them with a clinical finish in the 50th minute.
The celebrations lasted for only six minutes as the law enforcers in a display of courage and determination composed to settle the scores through Mercy Njeri in the 56th minute with a powerful header from a Lydia Okoth cross.
While Vihiga’s goal scorer in the first leg, Waliaula, took her tally to nine, on the weekend to keep her chase for the Golden Boot alive, Njeri is a long way off and will look to make up and hopefully win the match for the law enforcers.
"We are prepared, well aware that the two sides can match pound for pound and it will come down to small margins that we have talked to the players about. We have to fight from the first whistle," Vihiga head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu said.
The team goes to battle without the services of Merceline Wayodi who left for Kampala Queens last week, Nyamunyamu admitting her experience would have been crucial in such a clash but the replacement is equally capable.
Elsewhere, Bungoma Queens are set to host troubled Gaspo Women who are likely to dish another walkover and move closer to their imminent relegation.
Kibera Soccer look to bounce back to winning ways when they host Wadadia.
