Worse tragedy than Romeo and Juliet

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 23.11.24. | 19:11

Inter Milan demolished Hellas Verona 5-0, scoring all goals before the break - more precisely, in only 24 minutes, between 14th and 41st

One of the greatest tragedies ever written, William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, got a remake today at Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi in the same city where the two young people from conflicting families suffered - Verona. Inter Milan thrashed the home team 5-0, netting all goals before the break between the 14th and 41st minute.

The Gialloblu held out for only 14 minutes. Once Joaquin Correa broke the deadlock, the Nerazzurri began tormenting the home team and its custodian, Lorenzo Montipo, as if they were alone on the pitch. Marcus Thuram netted a brace in only three minutes - between 22nd and 25th - indicating Verona's "destruction."

Once the forwards did their job, the defenders stepped up as Inter's duo of centre-backs, Stefan de Vrij and Yann Bisseck scored in the 31st and 41st minute, respectively, setting the unbelievable half-time score - 5-0!

After the break, Inter played more relaxed football, knowing they had already earned three points. Hence, apart from a bunch of substitutions and an occasional attempt, the second half did not provide fans with much excitement.

Despite this devastating defeat - their fourth in the last five games - Verona are still above the relegation zone, while the Nerazzurri overtook Napoli's throne, at least until Antonio Conte's team finishes its clash against Roma (Sunday, 20.00), and can peacefully prepare for the Champions League duel against RB Leipzig at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next Tuesday.
