Erik ten Hag was previously in the mix for the BVB and Bayern jobs
In tonight's Bundesliga match, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach are not only fighting for points, but they are also fighting for the manager. BVB want's to hire current Foals coach Marco Rose at the end of the season. And considering the history between the two clubs, it will almost certainly be the case.
Dortmund is well known for finding young talent which they can resell at one point and make huge amounts of money. But, when they fail to do so or just want a player over 20 years old, they shop in other Borussia. Thorgan Hazard, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Marco Reus are current players who made their careers in Monchengladbach, but the Foals were unable to hold on to them, and they moved to the richer Borussia in their prime. Even recently sacked manager Lucien Favre managed Monchengladbach at one point, so they wanna continue shopping from the same team.
This time, it will be a younger and more modern manager Marco Rose, who did nothing to stop the rumors. Every time he was asked about the possible switch between Borussia's, former Salzburg coach just replied that he“does not want to participate in speculation”. And since it has been discovered and confirmed that Rose has an exit clause in his contract, it has become obvious that he doesn't see Monchengladbach as his final stop.
But, the Foals sports director Max Eberl, who has been just excellent in the last couple of years is already on the phone, according to Bild. His primary target is Erik ten Hag, a highly respected young Ajax manager. Eberl already stated that he will be on vacation during the winter break, but this is the second time he has been forced to work from the holiday. First, he had to act quickly and steal young Kouadio Kone (Toulouse) from the competition, and now he had to phone ten Hag and ask him about his possible transfer to Bundesliga. The young manager, who went to the semi-finals with Ajax in the Champions League season 18/19 is already familiar with the interest from the neighboring country. Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich were also calling him during the last season, but it never materialized. And we'll have to wait for a few more weeks/months for Rose to decide which Borussia he wants to manage in 2021.
