The striker on whom a lot of money was spent and who was seen as a major signing now appears to have become a big flop for Newcastle
Not even a year has passed, and there are already whispers of a split. Yoane Wissa could leave Newcastle before he’s even properly unpacked at St James’ Park, reports The Athletic. The DR Congo striker has struggled to “click” in Eddie Howe’s system, and patience in the north of England is slowly wearing thin.
Newcastle United will explore selling Yoane Wissa in the summer, less than a year after signing him for a fee rising to £55million.

Wissa joined Newcastle from Brentford on September 1 after a protracted pursuit that encompassed most of the summer window.

To recap, Wissa arrived in September 2025 from Brentford for nearly €60 million, tagged as the man meant to replace Alexander Isak after his move to Liverpool. Following a dream season (19 Premier League goals in 2024/25), it seemed like the Magpies had hit the mark—but things quickly went wrong.
A serious knee injury, a debut only in December, adaptation issues, and poor output: just three goals in 24 appearances across all competitions, with only four Premier League starts. Far too little for the money invested and the role he was supposed to fill.
Howe rotated him and searched for solutions, but Wissa simply couldn’t find his rhythm. No consistency, no impact, none of the goal-scoring instinct that made him such a high-profile signing. Instead, just a pale shadow of the player from Brentford.

Since the start of February, he’s played only 41 minutes, clearly suggesting that Newcastle are already making plans to move on. They are even considering a sale at a significantly lower price than what they paid, just to make room for new attacking options.
Yoane Wissa is currently valued at just €30 million—half of what Newcastle paid. The Athletic does not mention whether there are any interested clubs.
