Murang’a Seal are likely to be awarded the points, but it remains to be seen what action will be taken against the military outfit
The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee is, once again, set to deliberate on a top-flight controversy following the abandonment of the Premier League match between Ulinzi Stars and Murang’a Seal at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Ulinzi began brightly and took the lead through Paul Odhiambo, before Joe Waithira drew Murang’a Seal level midway through the first half from the spot.
The forward then struck what appeared to be the winning goal in stoppage time, but that proved to be the final action of the match, as play did not resume and the game was eventually abandoned.
The incident bore similarities to the recently concluded AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco.
Ulinzi protested that they should have been awarded a penalty after Lesharn Ole Mootian was allegedly fouled in the box.
They also claimed there was a handball in the build-up to Seal’s second goal.
Following those protests, the soldiers refused to restart the match, prompting the referees to walk off the pitch.
In a statement released on Sunday evening, the Football Kenya Federation confirmed that the matter would be handled by the Leagues and Competitions Committee.
“Ulinzi Stars vs Murang’a Seal was abandoned in the 94th minute following a second goal by Joseph Irungu, giving Murang’a Seal a 2–1 lead. Score at 90+4’ stoppage: 2–1 to Murang’a Seal. The matter will be referred to the Leagues & Competitions Committee,” read the statement.
The soldiers have repeatedly felt aggrieved by officiating decisions this season, most notably in their clash against AFC Leopards, where they believed they should have been awarded one or two penalties.
They went on to lose that match 2–1.
Murang’a Seal are likely to be awarded the points, but it remains to be seen what action will be taken against the military outfit, who are enduring a difficult campaign and once again find themselves in a relegation fight.
This is not the only case currently under review by FKF’s disciplinary organs.
The abandoned match between Nairobi United and Gor Mahia, played in December 2025, also remains unresolved.
That game was called off in the 58th minute with the score tied at 1–1 following crowd trouble.
