Vyner, who missed Bristol City’s 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, 24 January, is now expected to be out of the team for the next three to five weeks, as per head coach Gerhard Struber.

The Kenyan defender suffered the injury during City’s 2-0 defeat to Ipswich Town on Tuesday, 20 January, when he was hooked off after 27 minutes.

It is reported that the 28-year-old, who was playing in central midfield on the night, came together with Neto Borges in and around the 20-minute mark, before being replaced by Sam Morsy after going to the ground twice and receiving treatment.

Providing an update on Vyner prior to his side’s win over Wednesday, Struber told Bristol Live: “With Zak Vyner, he is out maybe the next few weeks with an ankle injury. I think he has in the ankle, in the ligament is a little bit torn.

He will be out between the next three and five weeks. We have to deal again with injury.”

The news comes as a huge setback to the defender, who had started to regain some poise after sitting out a game in December due to knee discomfort.

His lengthy spell out could also impact his future, with the Kenyan still playing his cards close to his chest.

Vyner is yet to sign a contract extension with The Robins, and has on numerous occasions been linked with Wrexham, the Championship club that he almost joined in the previous summer, only for City’s asking price to be deemed too high.

Commenting recently on Vyner’s future, Struber told BBC: “We gave him a really good offer, but it is more on himself in which direction he wants to go.”
