Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Tusker FC on Thursday confirmed the departure of its striker David Majak to Swedish top-tier side Kalmar FF on a six-month loan deal.
It is unusual for players to move from Kenyan clubs to Europe on loan, the Swedish side has now lifted the lid on why they went for such an arrangement.

According to the club’s Sports Manager Jorgen Petersson, the Covid-19 pandemic amongst other issues forced the club to restrategize on how they recruit players especially from Africa.
“In the times we are in, we at Kalmar FF have generally decided not to invite players for trials or short test games as it is too uncertain with entries, risk of infection, permits etc. We have also chosen to avoid traveling on scouting trips for the same reason. It makes scouting different than usual, contacts are processed intensively, and it is just a matter of trying to find as good solutions as possible,” he is quoted as saying in the club’s official portal,
“David Majak appeared as an interesting alternative from last season. Given the situation in society, we know that it takes time with different conditions, and we felt that we did not want to stress out a decision. David is now coming here on a six-month loan from Tusker FC, and in this way we get the opportunity to see him in our environment in peace and quiet and evaluate accordingly,”
“We see it as a very favorable solution for Kalmar FF, where in the next stage we have an exclusive option to make a permanent transfer for the 2022 season at the end of the loan period. That decision is entirely in the hands of Kalmar FF.” He added.
Majak broke into the limelight between 2017 and 2018 while featuring for Kapenguria Heroes in the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Grassroots tournament. He would later join Tusker FC in 2018 after fending off interest from Kakamega Homeboyz.

He scored six goals on his debut season in the top flight but has found playtime had to come this season after Tusker unearthed another gem in Henry Meja who is scoring for fun so far. Majak has also been struggling with injuries issues and has scored a paltry four goals so far this season.
