Kakamega Homeboyz assistant coach Hesbon Nyabinge has announced his departure from the club just four matches into the new season.
Nyabinge had returned to the club last November as a second assistant coach-cum physical trainer under then-head coach Francis Baraza.
When Baraza left just before the season began, Nyabinge was elevated to the role of assistant coach under new boss Patrick Odhiambo, with Paul Okatwa taking up his previous position.
However, after a few weeks into the new campaign, Nyabinge has walked through the exit door, in a move which caught many by surprise.
He took to social media to announce his exit from the former Mozzart Bet Cup winners.
“As I conclude my time with Kakamega Homeboyz FC, I am grateful for the journey, the growth, and the teamwork shared. It is been a rewarding chapter, and I now look forward to new opportunities ahead,” read part of his post.
He also wished the club well for the remainder of the season, saying, “Wishing the club continued success in the seasons to come.”
Although the tactician did not divulge much about his departure, Mozzart Sport understands that there has been growing disquiet within the Homeboyz technical bench, which eventually led to his exit.
The tension is said to have peaked after last week’s loss to Nairobi United, which reportedly led to an exchange of words among the staff.
Nyabinge is a well-known youth development coach, who has previously coached Kakamega High School, his alma mater.
Besides the Green Commandos, he has served as an assistant coach at Western Stima, and worked with Kenya’s national youth teams—U20, U17, and U23. He is a CAF A License holder.
Homeboyz have had a mixed start to the new season, winning two, drawing one, and losing one of their opening four matches. Up next for them is a home tie against Ulinzi Stars on Saturday.
